Ⓐ CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: “Free Love Until Love is Free” 🖤📝
OPIRG Toronto invites you to submit to a curated zine titled “Free Love Until Love is Free: Reflections on Making Monogamy Obselete.” We are seeking essays, poetry, illustrations, fiction, or any printable media on the topic of relationship anarchy (RA) praxis.
Due: May 31.
Compensation: $50-$100 for each accepted contribution, depending on the total number of contributions we choose to publish.
Length: <2,000 words for prose. Quality over quantity!

Guidelines:
- Provide image descriptions (IDs) for visual media. You can do so after your contribution is accepted.
- Promote curiousity, not agreement.
Below are some topics we’re especially interested in, but in no way limiting submissions to:
- RA as praxis, not identity: Share your vision or experience of what RA infrastructure looks like. Explore concrete alternatives to the distribution of care and resources under monogamism. Send us your stories or case studies of successful RA initiatives or relationships!
- Language for a positive platform: Interrogate and explore alternatives to the way monogamism structures language (and therefore relationships). Consider: labels, consent, cheating, family, relating with the non-human, etc. What does “free love” mean to you?
- Everyday RA: In what ways have you or people you know practiced RA while calling it something else? What are some low-barrier, everyday approaches you’ve taken to build up your RA muscle?
- Unbridled in form and content: Send us a two-page illustration for the centerfold. Consider letting the zine naturally bloom to a middle spread depicting unbridled human relating. What would our social lives look like if we all loved freely?
- A non-prescriptive approach: Colonial forms of relating prevail, yet, people are nevertheless the expert on their own lives and relationships. How do we approach individuals about RA while affirming their autonomy and expertise? How do we get them excited about RA?
- Incorporate one of the following words in your poem: unbridled, limitless, boundless, or multifarious.
- Relating in retrospect: Explore a history of relating, whether personal or regional. How did mononormativity rise at this scale, and how did the people it affect resist? Discuss your ancestral ways of relating and what teachings they offer us for the world we’re building. Or, send us speculative musings on future relatings.
